Post government relaxations following Lockdown 3.0 and 4.0, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) resumed two-wheeler dispatches in May, closing the month with a total of 54,820 units, including 54,000 domestic dispatches and 820 exports.
Retail sales crossed the 1.15 lakh mark, while over 10.5 lakh two-wheelers were serviced at Honda workshops across India. The company also achieved a milestone of 6 lakh cumulative BS-VI two-wheeler sales in May.
Business Recovery and Dealer Network:
Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Director – Sales & Marketing, HMSI, highlighted that 70% of Honda dealerships have resumed operations. “With sufficient availability of six BS-VI models (three scooters, three motorcycles), our network was able to regain initial sales momentum. Around 80% of potential buyers intend to purchase within three months post-lockdown, favoring two-wheelers over public transport due to social distancing,” he said.
HMSI also launched the all-new CD 110 Dream BS-VI, priced at Rs. 62,729 (ex-showroom Ahmedabad), marking the company’s first FY21 product launch.
Production and Supply Chain:
Honda recommenced production at its Narsapura plant (Karnataka) from May 25, followed by Manesar (Haryana), Tapukara (Rajasthan), and Vithalapur (Gujarat) plants in early June. All 308 supplier plants have received approvals to restart operations.
Digital Initiatives and Customer Engagement:
Honda dealerships are leveraging contactless digital solutions for online consultation, product selection, payment, test rides, and delivery. Attractive retail finance schemes — including up to 100% loan-to-value, low down payment, and EMI options across 20+ cards — are being offered to support customers in the current environment.
