As part of its World Environment Day celebrations, Aster CMI Hospital took proactive steps towards a greener future by organizing a sapling drive at its premises. Doctors, patients, and staff were encouraged to pledge reducing their carbon footprint and actively participate in eco-friendly initiatives.
The event saw the hospital team planting saplings within the campus and distributing saplings of Tulsi, Neem, and indoor succulents—known for low water consumption and air-purifying qualities—to patients to promote better indoor air quality. The drive also included participation from intellectually challenged individuals supported by Diya Innovations, an organization that trains and employs differently-abled persons. To reinforce sustainability, the pots used for planting were crafted from recycled waste paper, symbolizing productive reuse of daily waste.
Since its inception, Aster CMI Hospital has embraced multiple eco-friendly practices, including harnessing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal power to sterilize medical equipment, sanitize laundry, illuminate outdoor pathways, and power offices. The hospital also employs rainwater harvesting and recycles sewage treatment plant (STP) treated water for non-drinking purposes. These initiatives have collectively resulted in a 15% reduction in electricity consumption and a 10% decrease in water usage.
Aster CMI Hospital continues to lead by example in integrating sustainable practices into healthcare, aiming for a healthier planet alongside healthier patients.
