Avani Prashanth, a Grade VII student at Greenwood High International School, is dominating the C-category (Girls 11-13) in the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Junior Girls Amateur Golf Championships. She recently won the IGU Jharkhand Ladies and Junior Girls Golf Championship at Golmuri Golf Club, Jamshedpur, by a staggering margin of 24 strokes. Avani posted a score of 220 (4 over par) over three days — the lowest in the entire tournament across all age categories.
She also secured a strong 2nd place finish at the IGU Eastern India Ladies and Junior Girls Golf Championship at Tollygunge Golf Club, Kolkata, closing the gap by 5 strokes in the final round but finishing just 2 strokes behind the winner. These tournaments featured participants from across India, with 13 and 18 girls respectively.
Over the past seven months, Avani has won five out of seven IGU National Junior Golf Championships in the C-category and placed in the top three in the remaining two.
Looking ahead, Avani will represent India at the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina, this August, aiming to become the first Indian girl to win the event. She has already finished in the top five three times in the last five editions. Avani aspires to represent India at the 2024 Olympics and win a Gold medal. Her ultimate dream is to become the world’s No. 1 professional golfer and inspire more girls to take up the sport.
