Cricket in Kolkata has never just been watched - it has always been lived. Bringing that belief straight to the streets, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in collaboration with VIDA, powered by Hero, flagged off VIDA Knights Electrifying Box Cricket, a high-energy, fan-first box cricket tournament that put fans at the very heart of the Knight Riders universe.
Held from February 19 to 21, the three-day tournament marked KKR’s first-ever initiative of this scale, created exclusively for fans. Built around speed, skill, and community pride, the format brought together amateur players, fan clubs, and local heroes, giving them a rare opportunity to compete inside a professionally curated KKR ecosystem - where the energy was real, and the stakes felt personal.
As part of KKR’s continued commitment to grassroots engagement, the tournament delivered a structured and premium playing experience. 32 teams, each comprising 10 players, battled it out across group stages and knockouts, with three non-stop days of cricket, noise and neighbourhood bragging rights, that witnessed Joy Game Changers emerge as the inaugural champions of the tournament, with Knights Dé Xtreme finishing as runners-up.
Adding to the excitement, one of the 32 teams featured some of Kolkata’s favourite creators, including Neel Bhattacharya, DaSoham, Rahul Dey, Saiket Dey and Nirit Datta, bringing together the city’s digital voices and on-ground cricket culture in a format that blurred the line between fandom, sport, and entertainment.
What set VIDA Knights Electrifying Box Cricket apart was how the game itself was reimagined. VIDA-branded bonus targets placed around the arena rewarded precision and daring, with integrations around the USPs of VIDA such as their removable battery, turning innovation into a tactical advantage.
The intensity peaked with the VIDA Electric Over, where every run was doubled and batters could not be dismissed - creating explosive momentum shifts - while the Impact Player rule allowed teams to unleash a game-changer at a decisive moment, keeping matches unpredictable and adrenaline-fuelled till the final ball.
Speaking on the execution of this unique tournament, Binda Dey, Group Chief Marketing Officer, Knight Riders Sports, said, “Cricket has always lived in the heart of Kolkata. With VIDA Knights Electrifying Box Cricket, we took the game back to the fans - in a format that’s fast, accessible, and powered by participation. Featuring 32 teams competing over three high-octane days, this tournament celebrated community, competitiveness, and the joy of playing the game. We’re proud to partner with VIDA, a brand that shares our belief in creating experiences that fans don’t just watch, but truly live.”
Commenting on the partnership, Kausalya Nandakumar, Chief Business Officer, Emerging Mobility Business Unit, Hero MotoCorp, said, “Our association with Kolkata Knight Riders is rooted in the confidence, resilience, and aspiration that define a new India. VIDA is driven by the idea of making electric mobility exciting, accessible and relevant to everyday India - much like how KKR brings people together through cricket. With VIDA Knights Electrifying Box Cricket, we are bringing cricket’s unmatched passion and pulse to the streets, creating an exciting platform where supporters not only watch but also play and engage with us.”
With cricket, community, and innovation coming together on the ground, VIDA Knights Electrifying Box Cricket proved more than a tournament - it was fandom in motion, played one electric shot at a time.
