Raigarh, Chhattisgarh: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Bilaspur arrested Anil Kumar Chelak, a clerk at the Dharamjaygarh SDM office, for demanding a ₹2 lakh bribe to “resolve” a land registry issue.
The case was flagged by Raju Kumar Yadav of Amlicitikra village, who had legally purchased land but was approached by Chelak, claiming irregularities in the registry and threatening a complaint. Chelak demanded ₹2 lakh to suppress the case.
Acting on the complaint, ACB set up a sting operation. When Chelak accepted the bribe, he attempted to hide the money in a bag at his government residence. The ACB team quickly recovered the cash and arrested him on the spot.
The incident highlights continuing vigilance against corruption in public offices and reinforces the bureau’s strict action against bribery.
