The Water Resources Department celebrated the 58th Engineers’ Day on Monday evening at the auditorium of the Rajasthan International Centre, marking the 164th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
Chief Guest and Water Resources Minister Shri Suresh Singh Rawat, addressing the gathering, said that it is because of the team spirit of engineers that Rajasthan has emerged among the leading states in irrigation development. He expressed confidence that through the continued quality work of engineers, the state will soon become a role model.
He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, the department is progressing with the vision of “development along with heritage.” He urged engineers to study historical records and books on the state’s water resource development projects, emphasizing that studying history enables engineers to build a better future. He further directed engineers to ensure quality and timeliness in all water resource projects, without compromise.
The Minister announced that valuable suggestions will be sought from retired engineers for departmental development initiatives.
On the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Abhay Kumar, Chief Engineer & Additional Secretary Shri Bhuvan Bhaskar, Chief Engineer Shri Ravi Solanki, and Shri Yogesh Mittal addressed the audience and congratulated the engineering community. Engineers were called upon to imbibe the ideals of Sir Visvesvaraya and continue their work with the spirit of “Water is Life, Future Depends on Water.”
Senior retired engineers (above 75 years of age) were specially honored during the ceremony. Among those felicitated with mementoes were Shri Bharat Kumar Singhal, Shri S.K. Gupta, Shri Ajit Singh, Shri B.P. Sharma, Shri Kishore Singh, Shri J.P. Acharya, and Shri Arun Kumar Gupta, who also shared their experiences and suggestions for the state’s progress.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officials including Chief Engineer & Additional Secretary Shri Amarjeet Singh, Shri Rakesh Gupta, Shri Jitendra Dixit, Shri Sitaram Swaroop, along with departmental engineers, academic experts, and students.
It is noteworthy that Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya was a pioneering figure of Indian engineering. Through his innovative designs in dams, canals, and water management systems, he gave a new direction to India’s development. Engineers’ Day is celebrated to honor his legacy.
In Rajasthan, engineers of the Water Resources Department are regarded as the lifeline of the state. Their commendable role is evident in the construction of irrigation projects, dams, and canals, laying of pipelines, development of water conservation structures, and effective implementation of schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission. Despite difficult conditions and technical challenges, departmental engineers have been leading Rajasthan toward becoming a water-abundant state through their expertise, hard work, and dedication.
