India has called upon Pakistan to release and repatriate its national, Kulbhushan Jadhav, following the judgment of the International Court of Justice.
Making a statement in the Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the ICJ ruling is not only a vindication for India and Jadhav but also for those who uphold the rule of law and the sanctity of international treaties.
He asserted that Jadhav is innocent of the charges against him and emphasized that any forced confession obtained without legal representation and due process cannot alter this reality.
The Minister noted that the ICJ found Pakistan in breach of its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The Court directed Pakistan to inform Jadhav of his rights without delay and to grant India consular access.
Dr. Jaishankar further stated that the Government of India will continue to make all possible efforts to ensure Jadhav’s safety and well-being, and to secure his early return.
The Minister also made a similar statement in the Lok Sabha, where he presented his written reply in both Houses.
