Jaipur, April 29. In a major boost to urban mobility, the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project has received formal approval worth ₹13,037.66 crore from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). Notably, the approval order was issued within just 20 days of the Union Cabinet clearance, marking a record-fast decision-making process.
The project will develop a 41-kilometre North-South corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod, comprising a total of 36 metro stations. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had approved the project on April 8, 2026, positioning it as a key step towards strengthening public transport infrastructure under the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Viksit Rajasthan.’
For expedited execution, the first package covering a 12-kilometre stretch from Prahladpura to Pinjrapole Gaushala is set to receive work orders shortly, while tenders for the remaining packages are expected to be floated soon.
As per the Metro Rail Policy 2017, the Central Government will provide 50% equity support, significantly reducing the financial burden on the State Government. The project will be implemented by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a joint venture with equal participation from the Centre and the State. The project is targeted for completion by 2031.
