Chhattisgarh has once again reaffirmed its position as one of the leading states in the country in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Across all phases of the scheme, the state has so far received approval for 9,722 roads (48,594 km) and 669 bridges. Out of these, 8,753 roads (43,380 km) and 470 bridges have already been completed successfully.
774 New Roads Sanctioned Under PMGSY-IV
The Union Minister for Rural Development has formally informed Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai that under PMGSY-IV, the state has been sanctioned 774 new rural roads, covering a total length of 2,426.875 km.
For the first time under this phase, the objective is to provide all-weather road connectivity to eligible habitations previously lacking road access. This major approval paves the way for connecting remote and underserved settlements across Chhattisgarh.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, all-weather connectivity will provide these habitations with improved access to:
Markets
Healthcare
Education
Nutrition services
Disaster response
Daily mobility
The move is expected to significantly boost social and economic development, enhance rural livelihoods, and improve last-mile delivery of welfare services.
