The Assam government has placed disaster response agencies on high alert following heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Subansiri district, raising concerns over downstream flooding in several districts of the state.
According to meteorological reports, the Yazali region in Lower Subansiri District recorded 72.8 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, leading to a sharp increase in river discharge and flash floods in upper catchment areas.
Authorities have warned that water levels and flow velocity are likely to rise significantly in downstream districts including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath and Sonitpur over the next one to two days as the flood wave moves downstream.
Emergency response teams, including the State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force, have been kept on standby, while district administrations have been directed to closely monitor vulnerable areas and undertake precautionary measures.
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone regions have been advised to remain vigilant, follow official advisories, avoid waterlogged areas, and refrain from travelling in small boats due to the likelihood of stronger river currents.
