Union Home Minister Amit Shah today announced that the government's Smart Border Project has entered its final stage of execution, with a pilot rollout scheduled next year at seven to eight sensitive locations along borders managed by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Addressing the Prahari Sammelan at the Lankamura Border Outpost in Tripura, Mr. Shah said the project will combine advanced technology, security personnel and local civil administration to create a robust and virtually impenetrable border management system. He emphasized that technology-driven surveillance and coordination

will significantly strengthen border security and monitoring capabilities.
The Home Minister asserted that the government will not permit any demographic changes in border regions of Tripura, West Bengal and Bihar due to infiltration or security lapses along porous stretches. He also called for intensified efforts to curb cross-border crimes, including drug trafficking, human trafficking and cattle smuggling.
During his visit, Mr. Shah participated in a mass plantation drive and planted an Agar tree. Highlighting the environmental contributions of security forces, he noted that personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have planted over 6.40 crore trees across the country since 2019. He further announced a new target of planting more than 2 crore trees in a single year beginning next year, saying the initiative will enable jawans to contribute simultaneously to national security and environmental conservation.
