Following strict directions from Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, regarding illegal sleeper buses, Transport Commissioner Mr. Purushottam Sharma has issued orders for immediate enforcement action.
As per the directive, a special drive will commence from tonight in RTO First jurisdiction against all sleeper buses operating in violation of the prescribed Bus Body Code. Vehicles found without mandatory safety provisions—such as emergency exits, unobstructed gangways, emergency hammers, panic buttons, or those fitted with illegal luggage compartments—will be seized.
The orders clearly state that all such non-compliant vehicles will be sealed and will be permitted to operate only after necessary modifications are carried out strictly in accordance with the Bus Body Code.
In the aftermath of the Jaisalmer accident, these unsafe sleeper buses have emerged as a serious threat to road safety. The Transport Department has emphasized that only stringent enforcement against such violations can ensure improved road safety and prevent future mishaps.
