WinZO, an Indian vernacular esports and gaming platform, announced that it had raised $5 million in a Series A funding round earlier in the year. The investment round was led by Kalaari Capital and Hike.
According to the company, the funding was aimed at strengthening its position in India’s rapidly growing vernacular gaming and digital entertainment market.
Rahul Garg said the WinZO team had achieved strong product-market fit and demonstrated impressive growth and execution since Kalaari Capital led the company’s seed funding round the previous year. He added that the platform was well positioned to disrupt the vernacular entertainment space in India.
The company stated that it had crossed 7 million registered users, largely from Tier-2, Tier-3, Tier-4, and Tier-5 cities across India. Users reportedly spent an average of more than 55 minutes daily on the platform, while the top 20 per cent of users accounted for a significant share of engagement time on smartphones.
Popular games available on the platform included Carrom, Pocket Tanks, and other casual and multiplayer skill-based games.
