Jaipur/Ajmer, April 1, 2026: Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani on Wednesday met several Union ministers in New Delhi to push key proposals linked to Ajmer’s long-term economic and infrastructure development, with a major focus on IT investments, railway expansion, and passport services.
During his meeting with Union IT and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Devnani sought expedited support for the proposed IT Park in Ajmer. Responding positively, Vaishnaw said that several large companies could be encouraged to invest in the project, a move expected to create significant employment opportunities for local youth and accelerate the region’s technology-led industrial growth.
Devnani also raised the issue of the safety of people from Ajmer and other parts of India working in Middle Eastern countries during his interaction with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who assured that the Centre is making all possible efforts to safeguard Indian citizens abroad.
On the railway front, Devnani proposed setting up a Vande Bharat coach manufacturing unit in Ajmer, highlighting the city’s historic railway legacy as a major North Western Railway headquarters with long-standing carriage and loco workshop operations. He said the project could generate large-scale jobs and strengthen Ajmer’s industrial ecosystem.
He also demanded the launch and expansion of several rail services, including:
- Reintroduction of the Udaipur–Jaipur Vande Bharat via Ajmer
- Making the Ajmer–Mysuru train a daily service
- Starting a morning intercity train between Ajmer and Jodhpur
- Launching a weekly Ajmer–Chennai train
Noting Ajmer station’s strategic importance, Devnani said nearly 150 trains operate daily from the station, serving around 50,000 passengers, making new rail services essential.
In his meeting with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, Devnani also urged the Centre to upgrade Ajmer’s existing Post Office Passport Seva Kendra into a full-fledged independent passport office, citing growing demand driven by tourism, international travel, and the large number of residents with family members living overseas.
