There is limited awareness in India regarding autism and cerebral palsy. To address this gap, Dr. Pradeep Mahajan will conduct an interactive webinar on 3 August at 4:00 pm.
About Autism
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that appears in early childhood. It is characterized by:
Impairments in social interaction
Difficulties in communication
Restricted interests and repetitive behaviours
In India, the prevalence is estimated at approximately 1 in 500 individuals (0.20%).
About Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy is a group of neurological disorders affecting movement and coordination. It may also impact vision, hearing, and sensation. It is one of the most common causes of motor disability in childhood.
According to medical estimates, the incidence in India is around 3 per 1,000 live births.
Objective of the Webinar
The session aims to spread awareness about these conditions, which are often misunderstood or stigmatized in India. It will also discuss potential treatment approaches, including regenerative medicine.
Dr. Mahajan noted that neurological conditions remain a social taboo, particularly in rural areas where awareness is limited. He emphasized that digital platforms can help bridge this knowledge gap and support affected individuals and families.
