9th October, 2026, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore has been ranked 11th globally among the top 50 business schools, and #1 in India, for the impact of its teaching cases as part of the Financial Times’ 2026 assessment of the influence of academic work on business and policy practice. The ranking also places the Institute among the top institutions globally for the adoption and use of its case material, with IIMB cases being used across a broad international academic and professional audience.
The Financial Times is developing new ways of assessing how academic work generates cascading impact beyond publication and contributes to business and policy practice. Its 2026 assessment covers four areas: practitioner publications, policy impact, external grant funding and teaching cases. In the teaching cases measure, IIM Bangalore ranks 11th globally.
IIMB cases were subscribed to and used by 680 higher-education institutions across close to 50 countries during 2024 and 2025. The category of customers included academic institutions and faculty, students, companies and professionals.
The teaching cases measure assesses the production and use of case studies for classroom learning. For 2026, the Financial Times has combined data from five international case distributors, Case Centre at CEIBS, Harvard Business Impact, IESE Publishing, Ivey Publishing and The Case Centre, using a common methodology based on The Case Centre’s Impact Index.
Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Director-in-charge, IIMB, said, “The value of research is strengthened when it engages with the problems businesses face and subsequently informs decision-making. At IIMB, we see cases as an important way of making that connection by bringing research, managerial experience and real business problems into the classroom. The global adoption of our cases shows that there is demand for teaching material that is rigorous, contemporary and grounded in the realities of business”.
The Institute published 26 cases through Harvard Business Impact in both 2024 and 2025. Sales rose from 140,457 in 2024 to 184,879 in 2025, with an increase of nearly 32%.
Demand in 2025 was spread across cases dealing with a myriad of practical business problems rather than a single management discipline. Among the year’s bestsellers were ‘redBus: Art and Science of Product Management’ co-authored by Prof. Shankhadeep Banerjee, Chairperson, Information Systems and faculty of the IS area; ‘Testing Marketing Hypotheses at WSES’ authored by Prof. Dinesh Kumar, faculty of the Decision Sciences area; and ‘Customer Analytics at Bigbasket – Product Recommendations’, co-authored by Prof. Dinesh Kumar. These cases saw sustained demand across both years and featured among the leading cases in both 2024 and 2025.
