Following the success of his Malayalam publication Paathirapaatile Thennilapakshikal, author Shaji Madathil has released the English version of the book, titled The Soul of Truth. The book, translated by Jessy Skaria, was launched on July 12, 2019, by noted Malayalam writer C. Radhakrishnan at Bharat Tourist Home (BTH), Ernakulam.
“The Soul of Truth” revolves around Uthaman, a family man whose soul embarks on a profound and emotional journey after death. Set during the 41-day traditional mourning period, the novel explores the soul’s struggle to detach itself from earthly bonds while observing the grief, love, and unresolved emotions of the living. The story delves into the little-explored space between life and death, presenting a poignant reflection on mortality, attachment, and human existence.
The literary event was attended by several distinguished personalities from the literary and cultural community, including renowned Malayalam writer M. K. Sanu. Mother Superior Elizabeth Mark and Rev. Sister Helen of Carmel Old Age Home were also present on the occasion.
During the event, Shaji Madathil captivated the audience by reading excerpts from the novel, which is written in poetic prose against the lush backdrop of Kerala.
Speaking about the book, Shaji Madathil said that life and death are inevitable truths of human existence and emphasized the importance of living in the present rather than being consumed by anxiety about the future.
Writer Kunjikannan Vanimel praised the novel, describing Shaji Madathil as a socially conscious writer whose work reflects the realities and emotional experiences of expatriate life with exceptional depth and sensitivity.
