Under India’s BRICS Chairship, the second preparatory meeting of the BRICS Women Working Group was held virtually on May 22, 2026, under the leadership of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The meeting was chaired by Anil Malik, who welcomed delegates and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration among BRICS nations under India’s presidency theme:
“Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
Focus on Women’s Digital and Financial Inclusion
During the discussions, BRICS member countries exchanged views on:
- strengthening multilateral cooperation,
- advancing consensus on key priority areas,
- enhancing women’s digital inclusion,
- promoting financial inclusion,
- supporting entrepreneurship,
- and developing capacity-building frameworks.
Delegates also discussed creating better implementation mechanisms and sharing best practices to accelerate women-led economic participation across BRICS nations.
India Emphasises Outcome-Oriented Cooperation
In his opening remarks, Anil Malik reiterated India’s commitment to:
- fostering constructive dialogue,
- encouraging mutual learning,
- and driving result-oriented cooperation among BRICS members.
He stressed the need to translate discussions into actionable outcomes that contribute meaningfully to the broader BRICS agenda.
BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting to Be Held in Kochi
During the meeting, it was officially announced that the:
BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting
will be held in Kochi on:
- July 8–9, 2026.
The ministerial gathering will take place ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit and is expected to focus on:
- women-led development,
- inclusive economic growth,
- digital participation,
- and policy collaboration among member countries.
The meeting concluded with consensus on maintaining continuous engagement through:
- technical consultations,
- collaborative initiatives,
- and coordinated policy discussions ahead of the BRICS Summit.
