Coimbatore, May 4, 2026:
The Coimbatore (South) Assembly constituency has turned into one of the closest contests in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, with the DMK holding a razor-thin lead as counting continues.
According to the latest trends from the Election Commission, DMK candidate V Senthilbalaji is leading with 12,888 votes, while TVK’s V. Senthilkumar is trailing closely with 12,671 votes. The margin currently stands at just around 200 votes, making it one of the tightest races in the state.
Tight Three-Way Contest
While the battle is primarily between DMK and TVK, candidates from other parties are also in the fray. AIADMK’s Amman Arjunan and NTK’s Perarivalan are trailing behind the top two candidates.
The constituency falls in the politically crucial western belt of Tamil Nadu, where competition has intensified this election. Early trends indicate a multi-cornered fight, with no party establishing a clear dominance.
Key Leaders in Focus
Across the state, several high-profile candidates are also witnessing close contests. C. Joseph Vijay, founder of TVK, is currently leading in key constituencies, boosting the party’s performance statewide.
Meanwhile, DMK leaders, including Udhayanidhi Stalin, are also maintaining leads in their respective seats.
Counting Continues
With multiple rounds of counting still remaining, the final result in Coimbatore (South) is far from certain. The narrow margin suggests that late counting rounds could swing the result either way.
Election officials have indicated that updated figures will continue to be released as counting progresses.
