The Congress on Saturday appointed Supriya Shrinate, the party’s former Lok Sabha candidate from Maharajganj (Uttar Pradesh), as a national spokesperson.
In an official statement, Congress communication department chief Randeep Surjewala said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved Shrinate’s appointment as spokesperson of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
A former TV journalist, Shrinate transitioned into active politics ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She contested from Maharajganj but lost to BJP’s Pankaj Chaudhary.
Shrinate is the daughter of Harsh Vardhan, a two-time Congress MP from the same constituency.
