September 8, 2026: The cryptocurrency market was trading mixed in early Asian hours on Tuesday, with Bitcoin and Ether edging lower while several altcoins posted gains. The latest market snapshot at 08:38 IST shows short-term weakness in some of the largest cryptocurrencies, although weekly and monthly performance remains positive across most major tokens.
Bitcoin was trading at $78,935, down 0.21%, while Ether declined 0.28% to $2,483.67. Binance Coin also slipped 0.07% to $739.90. Among other large-cap cryptocurrencies, Cardano fell 1.04%, Solana declined 0.72%, and XRP was down 0.50%.
However, the broader market was not uniformly negative. Polkadot gained 0.70%, Polygon rose 0.69%, Cosmos increased 0.04%, Litecoin added 0.07%, while Uniswap advanced 1.91%. Algorand was also higher by 1.71%.
The weekly picture is considerably stronger. Bitcoin was up 1.99% over the past week, while Ether gained 2.77%. Binance Coin rose 8.29%, Cardano climbed 11.04%, and Polkadot recorded a strong 22.91% weekly gain. Uniswap also rose 19.66% over the same period.
Monthly performance remains particularly strong for several cryptocurrencies. Uniswap led the group with a 75.73% monthly gain, followed by Ether at 30.24%, Solana at 35.42%, XRP at 35.33%, and Polkadot at 34.13%. Bitcoin was up 21.76% over the month.
Despite the recent recovery, longer-term performance continues to remain under pressure for many major tokens. Bitcoin was down 9.77% year-to-date and 29.22% year-on-year, while Ether was down 16.25% YTD and 42.32% YoY. Solana was down 17.07% YTD and 52.48% YoY.
For Indian crypto investors, the data points to a market experiencing short-term profit-taking and volatility rather than a broad-based sell-off. The modest declines in Bitcoin and Ether are occurring alongside strong weekly and monthly gains in several altcoins. Investors therefore remain focused on whether major cryptocurrencies can sustain their recent recovery while limiting further year-to-date losses.
The combined market capitalisation shown in the snapshot also highlights the continued dominance of Bitcoin, with its market cap at approximately $1.59 trillion, compared with $393.28 billion for Ether.
