Jaipur, May 11:
The Rajasthan government continues to strengthen irrigation infrastructure and farmer welfare across the state. In line with this vision, major irrigation projects worth nearly ₹24 crore were inaugurated on Monday in Parmadara village of Deeg district, while development works valued at ₹9.72 crore were also launched.
The programme was attended by Rajasthan Water Resources Minister and Minister-in-Charge for Bharatpur and Deeg, Suresh Singh Rawat, as the chief guest, while Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham presided over the event. Local representatives, farmers, and residents were also present.
During the event, the government inaugurated the renovation of the Kakra Channel (RD 0 to 8500 meters) in Deeg tehsil along with restoration works of the Tail Distributary (Chain 0 to 220) and its minors under the Gurgaon Canal Irrigation Project. Additionally, foundation stones were laid for the rehabilitation of the Didawali, Parmadara, and Deeg sub-minors under the Deeg distributary project announced in the state budget.
Officials said the projects will help reduce water leakage and ensure smoother water supply to farmlands located at the tail-end of canal networks.
Rajasthan Moving from Desert State to Green State: Suresh Singh Rawat
Addressing the gathering, Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat said the irrigation projects would directly benefit 4,350 hectares of agricultural land across 21 villages in the region.
He said Rajasthan, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, is rapidly transforming “from a desert state into a green state.” Rawat also announced that Deeg district has now been linked to the revised Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project following demands raised by local representatives and Home Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham.
According to the minister, water from the Chambal, Kalisindh, and Parvati rivers will eventually reach the region, offering a long-term solution for both irrigation and drinking water needs.
Rawat also highlighted the state government’s crackdown on paper leak cases, stating that the formation of an SIT has restored confidence among youth regarding fair recruitment processes. Reiterating the government’s commitment to “water for every field, water for every home, and employment for every hand,” he described the Lakhpati Didi Yojana as a major step toward women’s empowerment.
He urged farmers to participate in the upcoming Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet, scheduled in Jaipur from May 23 to 25, to learn modern and organic farming techniques and take advantage of the Gram Rath campaign.
Khohwati to Be Developed into a Modern Town: Jawahar Singh Bedham
Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham congratulated farmers on receiving water through the Gurgaon Canal project and outlined ongoing infrastructure expansion in the region.
He said development works worth nearly ₹1,800 crore and construction of over 100 roads are currently underway in the Nagar Assembly constituency. Bedham reiterated his commitment to transforming the once backward Khohwati region into a developed urban centre.
He also informed that the tender process to connect the Sikri Dam with the Chambal project has already begun.
Speaking on anti-drug measures in Rajasthan, Bedham said the Anti-Narcotics Task Force constituted by the Chief Minister has led to major action against narcotics, bringing significant relief to the public.
Emphasising cultural and social development alongside infrastructure growth, Bedham appreciated local women for presenting folk songs during the programme, saying such traditions inspire social unity and positive energy.
