July 19, 2026: Social media platform Facebook experienced a widespread outage on Sunday, leaving thousands of users across the world unable to access their accounts or use key features, according to outage-tracking platform Downdetector.
Reports of service disruptions surged sharply around 10:39 a.m. ET, with Downdetector recording more than 3,500 user complaints within minutes, compared to the normal baseline.
Affected users reported multiple issues, including:
- Inability to log into Facebook accounts
- News Feed not loading
- Failure to upload photos and videos
- Messenger messages not sending
- Desktop version becoming inaccessible
Many users attempting to access the platform encountered the message:
"Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."
The outage appeared to impact users in multiple countries, triggering a spike in complaints on other social media platforms as users sought updates on the disruption.
As of the latest update, Meta has not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage or provided an estimated timeline for service restoration.
