With the objective of expanding its customer portfolio and strengthening its presence in India’s offline market, Huawei Consumer Business Group India today announced a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the brand’s reach across the country. Huawei, along with its strategic partners, will devise tailored strategies to establish a stronger foothold in the Indian consumer electronics market.
Under a phased expansion plan, Huawei aims to strengthen its presence across key cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Kochi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dehradun, Kolkata, and Jaipur, among others. Currently, Huawei primarily operates through retail partners to connect with existing and potential customers across the country.
As a brand, Huawei believes in democratizing technology for everyone. The company continues to focus on consumer-centric product and technology innovation through its state-of-the-art R&D centre in Bengaluru. Huawei’s R&D operations in India are driven by local talent that contributes significantly to technological innovation, with a singular focus on delivering an unparalleled consumer experience.
R&D plays a pivotal role in Huawei’s product offerings, and the company’s commitment to innovation is reflected in its investment strategy, with a minimum of 10% of its annual revenue allocated towards research and development. Huawei invested over USD 15 billion in R&D last year and ranked fifth globally in the 2018 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard. Its continued investment in innovation has also made Huawei one of the world’s largest patent holders.
Announcing the partnership, Tornado Pan, Country Head (Huawei Brand), Consumer Business Group, Huawei India, said:
“Since our entry into the Indian market, Huawei has witnessed an overwhelming response from consumers across segments. With an aim to be present wherever our consumers are, we plan to focus on building a robust offline distribution network that caters to customers in both urban and rural regions of the country. Through this initiative, we aim to provide consumers with first-hand access to innovative technology that has won the trust of customers worldwide.”
According to a recent IDC report, Huawei is the fastest-growing smartphone brand globally. The company sold 200 million smartphones in 2018, achieving yet another significant milestone. Huawei also shipped 100 million devices by the end of May, reaching the mark faster than it did the previous year.
Huawei further achieved a new three-month sales record with its P30 series crossing 10 million unit sales in just 85 days — two months faster than the P20 series.
