New Delhi, April 20, 2026: Indian Railways has announced a massive rollout of summer special train services to manage the surge in passenger demand during the peak travel season. Between April 15 and July 15, 2026, a total of 908 special trains will operate, covering 18,262 trips nationwide.
Out of these, 660 trains (11,294 trips) have already been notified, allowing passengers to plan and book their journeys well in advance.
Major Railway Zones Leading Operations
Among all zones, the highest number of trips will be operated by:
- Central Railway: 3,082 trips
- East Central Railway: 2,711 trips
- North Western Railway: 2,245 trips
Other key contributors include Western Railway, Northern Railway, and South Central Railway, ensuring balanced regional connectivity across the country.
Objective: Reduce Waiting Lists, Improve Connectivity
The large-scale deployment of summer special trains is aimed at:
- Reducing long waiting lists during peak season
- Providing additional confirmed berths
- Enhancing connectivity between major cities and regions
- Ensuring smoother and more comfortable travel
Railway officials emphasized that the initiative reflects a proactive strategy to handle seasonal travel demand, especially during holidays and high-traffic months.
