Jaipur, April 9: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Thursday directed officials to prepare a plan for setting up a new Integrated Command Centre for real-time traffic management in Jaipur, aimed at improving urban mobility, road safety, and congestion monitoring.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on Jaipur’s traffic reforms, the Chief Minister instructed the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), Transport Department, Traffic Police, and Municipal Corporation to work in close coordination and develop the facility as a model traffic management centre.
Sharma also ordered officials to accelerate all ongoing road overbridge (ROB) and elevated road projects, including the CBI Phatak, Saligrampura Phatak, Civil Lines Phatak ROBs, Gopalpura Elevated Road, and Sanganer Elevated Road, while ensuring strict quality standards and time-bound completion.
Taking a tough stance on delays, the Chief Minister said performance and liquidity penalties must be imposed on officials and contractors responsible for negligence in execution.
Focus on Smart Traffic Flow
The government has also asked agencies to quickly implement a double U-turn and free left-turn strategy on major roads and busy intersections to ease congestion.
Key corridors including Mahal Road, Sikar Road, and New Sanganer Road are set to be made signal-free through redesigned U-turn systems, while the free left-turn model at Rambagh Circle may now be replicated at other high-traffic junctions.
Sharma further directed the closure of irregular median openings across major city roads, calling for scientifically identified U-turn points and better lane discipline measures.
Faster DPRs for New Corridors
The CM also ordered the early preparation of DPRs for several proposed projects, including:
- Aranya Bhavan–Jagatpura Elevated Road
- Dravyavati Elevated Corridor
- Ajmer Road old octroi underpass
- Alternative ROB between Ram Mandir–Railway Yard–Railway Circle
A fresh traffic feasibility study has also been sought for proposed corridors facing high vehicular pressure.
Parking, Pedestrian Safety in Focus
The Chief Minister emphasised regulated parking management across Jaipur, asking JDA, civic bodies, and traffic police to ensure all parking spaces operate in an organised and rule-based manner.
He also called for controlled pedestrian crossings, zebra markings, school-zone speed control signage, and safer street design, especially around major markets, intersections, and educational zones.
