Jamia Middle School, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) held a significant event on July 15, 2025, in observance of "No Tobacco Day," aimed at raising awareness regarding the detrimental effects of tobacco on both health and society. The initiative's theme, "Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products," was presented by the WHO and was conducted under the leadership of Headmistress Mrs. Nusrat Jahan, with enthusiastic involvement from both teachers and students.
The program began in the morning with an assembly where students delivered speeches, recited poems, and showcased various performances that underscored the risks associated with tobacco use and the necessity of maintaining a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle. The Headmistress addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of fostering awareness about the health risks linked to tobacco and the vital role that young individuals play in creating a healthier future.
One of the day's highlights was the quiz conducted for students in grades 6 to 8, organized by the Tobacco Awareness Board, which was prepared by the students. The board showcased innovative and impactful posters, slogans, and information regarding the harmful chemicals found in tobacco products, their health effects, and strategies to resist peer pressure. Following the morning assembly, students, teachers, and the Headmistress engaged in a Walking Drive around the school campus and its surrounding areas. During this drive, students carried posters and placards featuring anti-tobacco messages and chanted slogans such as "Say No to Tobacco, Yes to Life" and "Tobacco Kills – Stop Now." This walk raised awareness within the local community and motivated individuals to adopt healthier lifestyle choices.
The event culminated in a pledge-taking ceremony during which all students and staff committed to refraining from tobacco use and promoting the message of healthy living within their families and communities.
The program was coordinated by Ms. Nagma Abbasi, Cultural Coordinator, alongside Deputy Coordinator Ms. Sadaf Khan. This initiative served as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to combat tobacco addiction and its detrimental effects.
