India’s transition to green mobility is accelerating on national highways, with the Bengaluru–Pune Highway (NH-48) emerging as the country’s most EV-ready corridor. The route—spanning Karnataka and Maharashtra—hosts the highest concentration of electric vehicle charging stations installed by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), according to data shared by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
While corridor-wise national data is not centrally available, the details provided by Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum show a clear trend:
The maximum number of EV charging installations are on the Bengaluru–Pune corridor, making Karnataka and Maharashtra the leading states for EV-friendly highways.
Bengaluru–Pune Highway Dominates Installation Count
A total of 236 EV charging stations have been set up by OMCs across four national corridors. Of these, the largest cluster is located along NH-48 between Bengaluru and Pune, where Indian Oil alone has installed dozens of chargers—many fully commissioned and operational.
From Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Hubballi, Belagavi in Karnataka to Kolhapur, Satara, Pimpri–Chinchwad, and Pune in Maharashtra, the corridor features a dense network of charging points. This makes it one of India’s most reliable routes for long-distance EV travel.
Why This Corridor Leads
Industry experts point to a combination of factors:
Heavy commercial and passenger traffic between Bengaluru, Hubballi, Belagavi, Kolhapur, Satara, and Pune
Early EV adoption in both Karnataka and Maharashtra
Strong policy support for charging infrastructure
The highway’s importance as a major south–west freight and passenger link
Cities Benefiting Most: Bengaluru and Pune at the Top
With a high number of charging stations installed near Bengaluru’s outskirts, Hubballi–Dharwad, and Pune metropolitan region, these two cities currently rank among the most EV-ready urban centres on national corridors.
India’s Green Corridors Expanding
In addition to NH-48, OMCs are also installing chargers along:
Delhi–Jaipur Highway
Mumbai–Surat–Ahmedabad Highway
Hyderabad–Vijayawada Corridor
But the Bengaluru–Pune stretch remains the single most developed EV highway for long-range travel.
