Thrissur, Kerala: The Kerala Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has launched a probe into a ₹50 lakh bribery claim linked to the Vadakkanchery Block Panchayat president elections.
The investigation follows the circulation of an audio clip in which EU Jaffer, an independent candidate backed by the Muslim League, allegedly claimed that he was offered money to support the CPM candidate. The clip, shared via the Facebook page of Congress leader PI Shanavas, suggests Jaffer was promised that “his life would be set” if he accepted the offer.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) General Secretary Anil Akkara filed a formal complaint demanding action. Both UDF and LDF had won seven seats each, making the independent member’s vote crucial in the politically sensitive election. Vigilance officials have now begun preliminary inquiries.
