Mumbai, February 5, 2022 — Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has signed a collaboration agreement with Campervan Factory Pvt. Ltd., an IIT Madras-incubated caravan manufacturer, to introduce budget-friendly luxury campers in India. These campers, based on the rugged double-cab Bolero Camper Gold platform, will cater to the growing self-drive tourism segment.
Key Details:
This marks the first venture by an Indian automotive OEM into the caravan segment.
Campers will be developed with support from IIT Madras Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre, International Centre for Clean Water for water and waste management solutions, and Saint Gobain Research Centre for glazing expertise.
The Bolero Camper Gold camper trucks will feature:
Sleeping accommodation for four
Seating and dining for four
Restroom with bio-toilet and shower
Fully equipped kitchen with mini-fridge and microwave
Optional air conditioning
Multimedia entertainment system
Designed to be easy to drive without special license requirements, enabling easy rental for self-drive tourism.
The campers combine comfort, safety, and the ability to travel to remote locations.

Government Support:
Several state governments including Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh have launched initiatives and policies to promote caravan tourism, establishing caravan parks and encouraging industry growth.
