The All India Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) — the national apex body representing the gems and jewellery industry — has announced the appointment of Mr. Ashish Pethe as Chairman and Mr. Saiyam Mehra as Vice Chairman for a period of two years.
The list of newly elected directors has been uploaded on the council’s official website: www.gjc.org.in.
Ashish Pethe: A Visionary Leader for a Unified Industry
Mr. Ashish Pethe has been an integral part of GJC, previously serving as Zonal Chairman (West) — a role he will continue to oversee alongside his new position as Chairman. Over his 25-year association with the industry, he has been instrumental in conceptualizing and executing several innovative initiatives for the sector’s advancement, including addressing critical issues such as Hallmarking and successfully leading the National Jewellery Awards 2020.
An alumnus of VJTI (Electrical Engineering) and Symbiosis Institute (MBA in Marketing), Mr. Pethe is a partner at the renowned Waman Hari Pethe Jewellers.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Pethe said:
“I am grateful to the Board for entrusting me with this responsibility. We aim to work closely with the Government to address various challenges facing the industry. In alignment with national policies, my priority will be to transform and energize jewellers across India, bringing greater synergy and unity within the indigenous trade.
GJC’s vision of One Industry, One Voice will guide our efforts to organize and empower jewellers to better engage with policy and regulatory frameworks. We will continue addressing key issues including Hallmarking, PMLA, and challenges related to banking support for the Gems & Jewellery sector.”
Saiyam Mehra: Driving Innovation and Organization
The GJC Board also appointed Mr. Saiyam Mehra as Vice Chairman. Recognized for his design excellence and forward-looking approach to gold and silver jewellery, Mr. Mehra has been a consistent advocate for innovation and industry modernization.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Mehra said:
“It is a proud privilege to serve this pivotal trade organization. My focus will be on driving growth, fostering compliance, and helping the industry become more organized. GJC will continue to create new and better platforms to support jewellers across regions and ensure a strong, united sector.”
Transparent and Independent Election Process
The GJC elections were conducted through an independent and transparent e-voting process supervised by an authorized Chief Election Authority and facilitated by a digitally managed platform appointed by the council. The online voting took place over five days — from December 23 to 27, 2020 — and the results were declared on December 29, 2020.
The All India Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) continues to serve as the unified voice of India’s gems and jewellery sector, representing the interests of manufacturers, retailers, artisans, and traders across the country.
