Heavy monsoon rains in Mumbai have led to a rise in illnesses among children, with doctors reporting increased cases of viral fever, dengue, malaria, diarrhoea, respiratory infections, and concerns about possible leptospirosis infections.
Suresh Birajdar from Motherhood Hospital said there has been a 30% increase in viral fever cases among children compared to June. He advised parents to prevent water stagnation around homes, use mosquito nets, and keep doors and windows closed during evenings to reduce mosquito exposure.
Doctors also recommended giving children boiled water, maintaining proper hydration, and ensuring a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to strengthen immunity. Parents were advised to avoid feeding children street food, junk food, spicy or sugary items, raw salads, and leftover food during the monsoon season to reduce the risk of infections and food contamination.
