Young girls enrolled under NTPC’s ‘Super 30 Girls’ programme—a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of India’s largest power generating company—have successfully cleared the IIT-JEE examinations, marking a significant milestone for the initiative.
Out of the 18 girls who qualified for IIT-JEE Main, five students have emerged successful in the final qualifying stage, bringing them closer to securing admission in India’s premier engineering institutes.
The year-long residential coaching programme was designed to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections, enabling them to prepare for competitive engineering entrance examinations and pursue higher education opportunities that were otherwise beyond reach.
Implemented in association with the Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL), the initiative ensures that NTPC bears the entire cost of boarding, lodging, food, and coaching for the selected students.
Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NTPC Northern Region Headquarters, Lucknow, and CSRL, New Delhi, the two organisations jointly launched the ₹77.03-lakh programme. The project aimed to train 30 girl students from families residing near NTPC power plants in the northern region.
Throughout the programme tenure, students received free residential facilities, nutritious meals, and specialised coaching for competitive examinations such as IIT-JEE and NIT, helping them aspire for admission to top engineering institutions across the country.
Launched on 1 July 2018, the programme eventually had 25 girls enrolled at the ‘NTPC Super 30 Girls’ Centre in Varanasi. The students were selected from government schools in Varanasi and Lucknow, highlighting NTPC’s commitment to inclusive education and women empowerment.
