PM Modi Meets Bhutanese PM Dr. Lotay Tshering Following Swearing-In Ceremony
New Delhi, May 30, 2019 – Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr. Lotay Tshering, attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following his re-election in the recently concluded Indian general elections.
Following the ceremony, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting marked by warmth and mutual goodwill. Prime Minister Tshering extended congratulations on behalf of the King and people of Bhutan and expressed his desire to further strengthen bilateral ties. He reiterated an invitation for Prime Minister Modi to visit Bhutan at the earliest opportunity.
In response, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep appreciation for Dr. Tshering's presence at the ceremony and for the good wishes conveyed. He affirmed India's steadfast commitment to Bhutan’s development, particularly in the hydropower sector, and emphasized the importance of the enduring partnership between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi graciously accepted the invitation to visit Bhutan, with dates to be decided mutually.
