Addressing the ongoing debate in Parliament, the Prime Minister noted that discussions on the amendment have been extensive, even continuing past midnight. He stated that concerns and misconceptions surrounding the amendment have been addressed through detailed and logical responses, with all necessary information shared with members.
Highlighting the long-standing nature of the issue, Modi emphasized that women’s reservation has been a subject of political debate for nearly four decades. He said the time has now come to ensure fair representation for women, who constitute half of the country’s population.
The Prime Minister pointed out that despite decades of independence, women remain underrepresented in decision-making processes, calling it a gap that needs urgent correction. With voting in the Lok Sabha expected soon, he urged all political parties to make a thoughtful and sensitive decision in support of the amendment.
Appealing on behalf of the nation’s women, Modi asked MPs to act responsibly and ensure that their decisions do not hurt the sentiments of “Nari Shakti.” He stressed that millions of women across the country are closely watching Parliament and its decisions.
He also encouraged members to reflect personally, invoking the presence of women in their own families, and to listen to their conscience while voting.
