New Delhi, June 8: Political activity intensified across several states on Monday as candidates filed nominations for upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, with key developments reported from Gujarat, Manipur, Meghalaya and Jharkhand.
In Gujarat, all four BJP candidates filed their nomination papers for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections at the State Legislative Assembly. Elections for four vacant Rajya Sabha seats in the state are scheduled to be held on June 18, with Monday marking the final day for filing nominations.
In Manipur, BJP state president A. Sarda Devi filed her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election. She was accompanied by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, NDA legislators and senior party leaders during the nomination process at the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
In Meghalaya, James P. K. Sangma, a leader of the National People's Party and former legislator, submitted his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election before the Returning Officer at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, political activity gained momentum as candidates from major parties filed their nominations for two Rajya Sabha seats. Baidyanath Ram of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress candidate Pranav Jha, and Independent candidate Parimal Nathwani submitted their nomination papers in Ranchi. Baidyanath Ram filed his nomination in the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and senior alliance leaders.
The flurry of nominations signals the beginning of intense political engagement ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections, with parties mobilising support and finalising strategies for the upcoming polls.
