New Delhi, April 20, 2026: Ministry of Rural Development has undertaken a comprehensive review to ensure uninterrupted implementation of key rural welfare and infrastructure schemes across India, amid global uncertainties arising from the ongoing West Asia crisis.
The Ministry is closely monitoring potential impacts on global supply chains, commodity prices, and inflation, while prioritizing continuity in employment, housing, rural roads, and livelihood programs.
Focus on Employment and Wage Security
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act will remain fully operational until the proposed VB–GRAM Act, 2025 comes into effect.
- Guaranteed employment on demand will continue without disruption
- Timely wage payments and legal entitlements remain unchanged
- Existing wage rates notified by the Centre will stay applicable
- An initial tranche of ₹17,744 crore is being released to ensure timely payments
The proposed new framework is expected to enhance employment guarantees to 125 days annually, with revised wage rates to be announced separately.
Push for Rural Housing Targets
Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin, the government aims to construct 4.95 crore houses by March 2029.
To counter possible supply disruptions and price fluctuations:
- Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) are being ensured on time
- Monitoring through AwaasSoft and geo-tagging is being strengthened
- Focus on completing pending houses at the earliest
Beneficiaries will continue to receive integrated support, including wages, sanitation, drinking water, LPG connections, and electricity.
Rural Road Projects on Track
Under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana:
- Projects under PMGSY-I, II, III are largely approved and in tender stages
- Remaining bridge works under PMGSY-III are being processed
- Around 12,100 km of roads under PMGSY-IV have been sanctioned and are in tendering phase
Future projects will factor in market-linked cost adjustments to maintain execution efficiency.
Strengthening Agriculture and Natural Resources
The Department of Land Resources is implementing the WDC–PMKSY 2.0 program across 50 lakh hectares, focusing on:
- Water conservation
- Sustainable agriculture
- Horticulture development
- Pastureland enhancement
Strategic Continuity Amid Global Uncertainty
Officials emphasized that despite global disruptions, the government is committed to ensuring uninterrupted fund flow, timely execution, and beneficiary support, safeguarding rural livelihoods and infrastructure growth.
