New Delhi, Feb 18, 2026: Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed officials to accelerate efforts on a war footing to achieve the ambitious target of creating 6 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’, while preparing a roadmap to link 10 crore women to financial inclusion initiatives.
Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Ministry of Rural Development at Krishi Bhawan, the minister assessed the progress of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) and expressed satisfaction over current performance. He instructed officials to design a focused strategy in coordination with states to meet the expanded target within a defined timeline.
Chouhan emphasized that maximum benefits of rural development schemes must reach ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and called for effective utilization of allocated funds. States lagging in performance or unable to fully utilize budgets will receive guidance and support to ensure timely achievement of mission goals.
He also stressed continuous coordination with states to expand the reach of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and strengthen implementation. The DAY-NRLM operates through four key pillars—institution building and capacity development, social inclusion and development, financial inclusion, and livelihood enhancement—aimed at empowering rural women economically and socially.
