Narendra Singh Tomar met Luis Miguel Etchevehere in New Delhi to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector between India and Argentina.
During the meeting, both sides discussed that the Working Sub-group on Animal and Plant Health would strengthen reciprocal trade mechanisms established under the Work Plan signed in February 2019. The initiative is expected to facilitate and expedite cooperation in identified sectors of mutual interest.
Narendra Singh Tomar expressed satisfaction over the completion of sanitary and phyto-sanitary approvals for the export of guar and millet from India to Argentina, as well as lemons and chia seeds from Argentina to India. He stated that both countries should continue efforts to provide market access for additional agricultural products of mutual interest.
The Union Minister also highlighted the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in the exchange of agricultural technologies aimed at improving productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, and developing climate-resilient crop varieties.
To address food losses and wastage, Tomar suggested enhanced collaboration with Argentina in areas such as improved agronomic practices, storage technologies, and food processing systems.
