Sangareddy (Telangana), April 30. In a corruption crackdown, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a bill collector red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 for reducing property tax in Sadashivpet town of Sangareddy district.
The accused, M. Nikhil Reddy, an outsourced bill collector working in the office of the Municipal Commissioner, was apprehended at the complainant’s residence. According to ACB officials, he had demanded a total bribe of ₹35,000 to process the reduction of property tax from ₹1,04,480 to ₹49,892 for the complainant’s house.
Investigations revealed that Reddy had already received ₹20,000 earlier and was caught while accepting the remaining ₹15,000. The tainted amount was recovered during the operation.
The ACB has initiated further legal proceedings against the accused under anti-corruption laws. Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against public servants involved in bribery.
The agency has also urged citizens to report any instances of corruption through its toll-free helpline 1064 or via WhatsApp and official digital platforms, assuring confidentiality of complainants.
