Security agencies have seized a massive cache of explosives in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, thwarting a potential major conspiracy ahead of Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The recovery has put multiple security agencies on high alert, with an intensive investigation currently underway.
According to police officials, 9,550 kilograms of ammonium nitrate were recovered from a house located in a field in the Harsaur village limits under the Thanwala police station area. The explosives were stored in 187 sacks and were allegedly kept illegally.
The joint operation was carried out on Saturday by the Thanwala Police and the District Special Team (DST) following a confidential intelligence input about illegal explosive materials being stored in the area. After verifying the input, the teams planned and executed a raid, cordoning off the premises before conducting the search.
Police have arrested 58-year-old Suleman Khan, a local resident, in connection with the seizure. Officials confirmed that the accused has multiple criminal cases registered against him previously.
Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa stated that the information was first discreetly verified before action was taken. “Based on credible intelligence, the police conducted a planned operation and recovered a huge quantity of ammonium nitrate,” he said.
The recovery comes months after thousands of kilograms of explosives were seized from multiple locations in Haryana, which later led to the exposure of a terror-linked doctors’ module. In that case, one accused had escaped, following which a bomb blast occurred near Delhi’s Red Fort. However, police clarified that no such linkage has been established so far in the Nagaur case.
