Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: In what officials described as the largest-ever cash recovery in its history, the Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday unearthed over ₹4 crore in cash during simultaneous raids linked to arrested Deputy Director of Mines, Cuttack Circle, Sri Debabrata Mohanty.
Mohanty was apprehended late Monday night for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 from a licensed coal vendor. Acting swiftly after the trap, Vigilance teams launched coordinated house searches at his residential flat in Bhubaneswar, his parental house at Mathasahi in Bhadrak district, and his official chamber in Cuttack.
During the ongoing searches, officials recovered cash exceeding ₹4 crore concealed in trolley bags and almirahs at his Bhubaneswar flat. The seized currency is currently being counted to determine the exact amount. Vigilance authorities confirmed that the recovery marks the highest single cash seizure ever made by the agency.
Sources said the raids are part of a disproportionate assets (DA) angle investigation, with officials scrutinising financial records, property documents and other assets linked to the accused officer.
Further legal proceedings are underway, and additional charges may be invoked based on the outcome of the ongoing searches and financial analysis.
