The Karnataka Lokayukta Police have intensified their anti-corruption drive, arresting a police inspector in Bengaluru while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹4 lakh. In parallel actions, the agency also secured a conviction in a disproportionate assets case and uncovered illegal properties worth over ₹26 crore linked to a serving government officer.
Inspector Arrested Red-Handed in Bribery Case
Inspector Govindraju, posted at the KP Agrahara Police Station in Bengaluru, was caught red-handed by Lokayukta officials while accepting ₹4 lakh in cash. According to investigators, the inspector allegedly demanded the bribe by threatening to falsely implicate an individual in a chit fund fraud case.
Following a complaint, Lokayukta police laid a trap near the CAR Ground area under the Sirsi Circle, where the inspector was apprehended with the cash. He has been arrested under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway to determine whether other officials were involved.

Former Excise Officer Convicted in Disproportionate Assets Case
In a separate case, the 77th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, Bengaluru, convicted former Deputy Commissioner (Excise) S Srinivas Murthy from Chikkaballapur district in a long-pending disproportionate assets matter.
The court sentenced Murthy to three years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1.34 crore. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional one-year jail term. Lokayukta officials stated that Murthy accumulated assets far exceeding his known sources of income between 1978 and 2014. A raid conducted in 2014 had revealed illegal assets worth approximately ₹1.22 crore.
₹26 Crore Assets Found in Raids on Serving Officer
Meanwhile, Lokayukta police carried out simultaneous raids at more than five locations linked to Tejas Kumar N, an Assistant Conservator of Forests recently transferred to Shivamogga.
The searches led to the detection of disproportionate assets worth ₹26.55 crore, including four sites, eight residential houses and around 14 acres of agricultural land valued at over ₹25.63 crore. Officials also seized ₹50,000 in cash and vehicles worth nearly ₹92 lakh.
A case has been registered at the Bengaluru City Lokayukta Police Station, and further investigation is in progress.
