Mahendra Nath Pandey met Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati to review skill development initiatives in the North-East region under the Skill India Mission.
The Centre and Assam Government agreed to collaborate on setting up a Skill University aligned with national skill standards.
The Ministry also decided to support Manipur in establishing a new National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) to strengthen technical training infrastructure.
Discussions focused on entrepreneurship promotion, local trade-based short-term courses, tourism-linked job creation, and reducing labour migration from the North-East.
The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship will receive central government support for research, curriculum development, and entrepreneurship training.
Under Skill India initiatives, over 2.5 lakh youth in the North-East have been trained since 2016, with 1.82 lakh certified under schemes like PMKVY.
The government also highlighted support for women entrepreneurship, traditional artisans, and special projects for tribal women in the region.
