Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma has directed officials to remain in alert mode due to the ongoing continuous rainfall across the state. The administration should work with full preparedness to speed up relief and rescue efforts in areas affected by heavy rainfall. He instructed officers to work with caution and sensitivity in waterlogged areas to prevent any loss of life.
Chief Minister Appeals to Public for Extra Caution During Rainfall
The Chief Minister emphasized that citizen safety is the highest priority and instructed the administration to work proactively. He appealed to the people of the state to take special precautions during the rainy season and remain fully alert against heavy rainfall, lightning, and other natural disasters. He advised avoiding flooded routes, bridges, and fast-flowing rivers and drains, and to strictly follow the administration’s issued guidelines. In case of any disaster situation, citizens should immediately inform the control room to enable faster relief operations.
These directions were issued by Shri Sharma during a disaster relief management meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Wednesday. He noted that due to continuous rainfall, most dams, rivers, ponds, and reservoirs are now at full capacity. Officials should regularly update water levels and prepare lists of low-lying and flood-prone areas, appoint personnel for their monitoring, and ensure special vigilance in these areas. Warning boards should be installed as needed to prevent accidents.
The Chief Minister instructed that SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), Civil Defence, and Home Guard teams remain alert with adequate resources in accident-prone areas. Movement of the public should be restricted in such places. Temporary check posts should be set up at locations like rapats (water channels) during water flow to stop vehicular movement.
Ensure Necessary Resources and Services are Functional in Affected Areas
He said the Disaster Management and Relief Department operates state-level helpline numbers 1070 and 112, and district-level helpline 1077 round the clock. Officials should take prompt action on complaints received in control rooms and ensure quick relief to the public. He instructed officials to relocate affected people and livestock to safe places and ensure availability of clean drinking water and regular sanitation there. Adequate resources and smooth services must be maintained in affected areas. People in waterlogged zones should not face shortages of drinking water, food, and other essentials.
The Health Department was directed to monitor prevention of seasonal diseases in flooded areas, ensure sufficient medicine supplies, and provide emergency medical aid in hospitals.
All Departments to Remain Fully Prepared for Disaster Relief
During the review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that officials work sensitively, giving special priority to the safety of children, women, elderly, and differently-abled persons. He instructed the Panchayati Raj Department to coordinate with relevant departments to ensure timely supply of resources to affected areas. The Public Health Engineering Department was directed to guarantee access to safe drinking water.
He further instructed officials to prioritize road repairs, activate flood warning systems more effectively, raise public awareness through various media platforms, increase participation of voluntary organizations, and ensure cleanliness of drains and proper water drainage.
Senior officials from various departments briefed on disaster relief preparedness during the meeting, which was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Sudhansh Pant and other top officials.
