Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol, born in Nasrali, Ludhiana, Punjab, on 8 December 1935, is a legendary Bollywood actor and a prominent figure in Indian cinema. Born into a Punjabi Jat family, he spent his early life in Sahnewal and completed his schooling under Panjab University in Phagwara.
He married Prakash Kaur at 19, with whom he had four children, including actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Later, he married iconic actress Hema Malini, and the couple has two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. The family has often been at the center of public interest, with Dharmendra clarifying that he remained a Hindu despite circulating rumours about conversion.
Dharmendra resided in Lonavala in his later years, while his family lives in Juhu, Mumbai. Despite his monumental contribution to Bollywood, in 2023 he expressed that the film industry had overlooked the Deol family’s legacy.
