The Karnataka Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Tuesday unanimously elected senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar as its new leader and the next Chief Minister of Karnataka following the resignation of Siddaramaiah.
The decision was taken during the Congress Legislature Party meeting held at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. A resolution proposing Shivakumar’s name was moved by outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and senior Congress leader Dr G. Parameshwar and was subsequently adopted by the party legislators.
According to an official statement issued by D K Shivakumar’s office, the Congress legislators unanimously elected him as their leader and endorsed his candidature for the post of Chief Minister.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal announced that Shivakumar had been elected unanimously and would soon meet the Governor to stake claim to form the government.
Venugopal also confirmed that the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister will take place on June 3, 2026.
D K Shivakumar, who currently serves as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President, has been a key strategist and organizational leader for the party in the state. His elevation marks a significant leadership transition in Karnataka after Siddaramaiah's tenure as Chief Minister.
