Global energy prices were broadly higher on September 22, 2026, with crude oil, Brent, natural gas, gasoline and European gas benchmarks recording gains in the latest session. However, several major energy contracts remained lower over the past week, highlighting continued short-term volatility across the sector.
Brent Crude Moves Above $101
Brent crude rose 0.72% to $101.059 per barrel, gaining $0.719 in the latest session. Despite the daily increase, Brent is down 7.06% over the week. On a longer-term basis, the benchmark remains significantly higher, with gains of 9.66% over the month, 66.10% year-to-date and 49.45% year-on-year.
US crude oil was at $92.848 per barrel, up 0.52% or $0.478. Crude oil has declined 12.27% over the week, but remains up 9.22% monthly, 61.70% YTD and 46.43% YoY.
The figures indicate that while oil prices have experienced a recent pullback, the broader 2026 performance remains strongly positive.
Gasoline, Heating Oil Show Strong Annual Gains
Gasoline climbed 0.13% to $3.4745 per gallon, with a weekly gain of 0.27%. Its monthly performance stands at +6.23%, while the contract is up a substantial 103.09% YTD and 73.20% YoY.
Heating oil, meanwhile, slipped 0.24% to $4.8780 per gallon. It is down 7.31% for the week, but remains up 14.28% over the month, 129.90% YTD and 109.51% YoY.
These figures make heating oil one of the strongest-performing energy contracts in the snapshot on a year-to-date and annual basis.
European Gas Prices Rise Despite Weekly Declines
EU Gas advanced 1.07% to €74.03/MWh, while UK Gas also gained 1.07% to 183.55 GBp/therm.
Both contracts, however, remain lower on a weekly basis, falling 7.53% and 7.49%, respectively. Their longer-term gains remain substantial: EU Gas is up 162.88% YTD and 129.45% YoY, while UK Gas has gained 148.68% YTD and 128.50% YoY.
Other Energy Commodities
Methanol was among the stronger movers in the latest session, rising 1.60% to CNY 3,488, with monthly, YTD and YoY gains of 18.68%, 59.27% and 54.82%, respectively.
Ethanol gained 1.43% to $2.13 per gallon, while coal rose 0.03% to $144.05 per tonne.
Meanwhile, naphtha declined 2.62% to $817.25 per tonne, and coking coal gained 0.38% to $263 per tonne.
Natural gas rose 0.23% to $2.8424/MMBtu, although it remains down 22.89% YTD and 9.48% YoY.
