Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), May 1, 2026. In a major anti-corruption crackdown, the Central Bureau of Investigation conducted a 19-hour-long operation in Meerut, arresting a senior health official and her security guard for accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
The accused, Dr. Natasha Verma, Additional Director (Health) at Central Government Health Scheme, and her private security guard Sunny Singh were caught red-handed during a planned trap operation at the CGHS dispensary in Surajkund area.
According to officials, the duo had allegedly demanded ₹80,000 from an employee to stop his transfer, later settling the deal at ₹50,000. Acting on a complaint, the CBI laid a trap using chemically treated currency notes. The guard was apprehended while accepting the bribe inside a vehicle, with the chemical test confirming the exchange.
During interrogation, the guard admitted he was collecting the money on instructions from Dr. Verma, leading to her immediate detention from her office. Both accused have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The operation triggered chaos at the dispensary, with CBI officials sealing the premises and restricting staff movement for several hours. Simultaneous searches were conducted at the residences of the accused, where documents, bank records, and digital evidence were seized.
After completing legal formalities early Friday morning, both accused were taken to Ghaziabad and are set to be produced before a special CBI court.
