Three student teams from the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) have been shortlisted as finalists for the 2020 Flourish Prizes, which recognise student-led stories on business innovations supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The GIM teams were selected from 824 student-written innovation stories submitted from across the world.
The initiative was undertaken as part of GIM's Social Responsibility and Action (SRA) course, through the institute's collaboration with AIM2Flourish, a higher-education initiative focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Three GIM Teams Reach Global Flourish Prize Final
AIM2Flourish is an initiative of the Fowler Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University.
As part of the programme, students research business innovations, interview business leaders and develop stories connecting those innovations with the UN SDGs. Stories that clear the review process are published on the AIM2Flourish platform.
For the 2020 Flourish Prizes, 76 stories from 35 universities across 17 countries, supported by 42 professors, were shortlisted as finalists. Three of the finalist stories were submitted by GIM students.
Prof. Divya Singhal, Associate Professor, GIM, who guided the student teams, said the institute was pleased to see all three submissions shortlisted and thanked the business representatives who supported the students' research.
‘Protecting Motherhood’ Focuses on Maternal Healthcare
The story “Protecting Motherhood” was submitted by Vishal Sharma, Tanushka Malhotra, Arushi Bansal, Sakshi Ajmera, Pruthvi Sainath and Yeshitesh Shirodkar.
The story focused on Maatritva, an app developed by four young entrepreneurs from Nashik to support maternal healthcare.
The innovation addresses challenges associated with maternal undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, anaemia and limited access to healthcare facilities. The project was linked to UN SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
